KEY POINTS

All door supervisors working at licensed premises in England and Wales are required to hold an
SIA licence.

In order to obtain a licence, applicants must hold an SIA approved qualification.
The BIIAB National Certificate for Door Supervisors is a nationally recognised qualification that meets the demands of the industry standard and enables door supervisors to apply for their SIA licence to practice.

The range of skills and depth of understanding required by individuals to enable them to practice door supervision to a common standard, providing the wherewithal to gain a national qualification and obtain a licence to practice, in line with the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

This new qualification consists of two units:

Delivery
These subjects may be delivered over 4 days with an average course day of 7.5 hours or, delivery can be over a combination of weekend/evening sessions to suit individuals’ requirements.

Assessment
Both units are separately assessed by means of an externally marked multiple-choice examination. Each examination consists of forty questions and lasts for 1 hour. Unit 1 is a conventional multi-choice question paper; Unit 2 requires candidates to watch a series of video clips before answering the questions.

Course Duration
The guided learning hours for this qualification is a total of 30 hours, inclusive of examinations.
(15 hours for each unit)

Certification
On successful completion of the course candidates will be awarded a certificate from BII (British Institute of Innkeepers)

Exemptions
Candidates who already hold an existing award/qualification in a door supervisor discipline may be exempt from Part 1 of the Core Competency Training (Note: original certificate documentation must be provided to enable eligibility for exemptions). Entry Age and Requirements:
Minimum age for entry is 18.
There are no formal entry requirements.

PART 1 - 15 hrs: ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF DOOR SUPERVISORS
PART 2 - 15 hrs: CONFLICT MANAGEMENT FOR DOOR SUPERVISORS

  • Studying relevant legislation and how to comply with the law, admission policies and procedures, refusing entry, searching, seizing articles, eviction, use of force and offensive weapons
  • How to deal with emergencies, drugs, arrest, scene preservation and report writing
  • Candidates managing conflict by applying dynamic risk approaches, understanding the importance of self-awareness and acting proactively
  • How to defuse conflict by overcoming communication blocks, signalling non-aggression and managing highrisk situations
  • How to resolve conflict and how to learn
    from conflict
